How many calories in kefir
A 250 ml glass of kefir made with whole milk has about 150 kcal and 8 g of protein.
Portion
To burn it off

Kefir is fermented milk, a bit like a runny, tangy yoghurt you drink. It's gone from health food shops to every supermarket fridge in a few years.
A glass is about 150 kcal, with 8 g of protein, 11 g of carbs and 8 g of fat. The fermenting eats some of the milk sugar, so it's less sweet than it looks.
The flavoured bottles often have fruit and sugar added, so check the label. The plain one is the one these numbers are for.
Tips
Where it comes from
Kefir comes from the Caucasus Mountains, where herders have fermented milk with kefir grains, small clumps of yeast and bacteria, for centuries. The name probably comes from the Turkish keyif, meaning pleasure. By the 19th century it was prized as a health drink, and a popular story says a young dairy worker brought the first grains to Moscow in the early 1900s.
