How many calories in an apple
A medium apple has 95 kcal and 25 g of carbs, with almost no protein or fat.
Portion
To burn it off

An apple is mostly water, which is why it crunches and why it fills you up for so few calories. The rest is fruit sugar and fibre, much of it in the skin.
A small one is 77 kcal and a big supermarket one is 116. If you buy the giant shiny ones, that's the number to use.
It takes a while to eat, and that's half the point. You chew, you feel like you've had something, and you have.
Tips
- 1Keep the skin on, it's where a lot of the fibre lives.
- 2Slice it and add a teaspoon of peanut butter instead of reaching for a biscuit with your tea.
- 3Keep apples in the fridge, not the fruit bowl. They stay crisp for weeks, and a crisp apple is one you actually eat.
Where it comes from
The apple comes from the wild fruit forests of the Tian Shan mountains in Kazakhstan, where its ancestor Malus sieversii still grows. Traders on the Silk Road carried the fruit east and west, and along the way it crossed with wild crab apples. That mix is why a modern apple is mostly Kazakh with a good dose of European crab apple in it.

Questions
Are apples good for losing weight?
They help. A medium apple is 95 kcal, takes a few minutes to eat and fills you up better than most snacks with the same calories. It won't do the work for you, but it's an easy swap for a biscuit.
Is apple juice the same as an apple?
No. Juice loses the fibre and goes down in seconds, so it fills you up far less for the same sugar.
Do green and red apples differ in calories?
Barely. Size makes much more difference than colour.
How many calories in two apples?
Two medium apples come to 190 kcal.
Does a baked apple have more calories?
Not on its own. Baking doesn't add anything, so a medium apple is still 95 kcal. It's the sugar, butter or custard you add that moves the number.
How much sugar is in an apple?
A medium apple has about 19 g of natural sugar, which is most of its 25 g of carbs. The rest is fibre, a lot of it in the skin.
Apple or banana, which has fewer calories?
The apple, just. A medium apple is 95 kcal and a medium banana is 105, so pick the one you'll enjoy.
