How many calories in an espresso
A single espresso has 3 kcal, so it barely moves your day.
Portion
To burn it off

Espresso is just coffee and water pushed through at pressure. There's no milk and no sugar, so there's very little to count.
One is 3 kcal and a double is 6. You could have a few a day and the coffee would hardly move your numbers.
It's what you add that counts. A sugar cube, a splash of milk or turning it into a latte is where the calories come in.
Tips
- 1Have it black, the way the Italians drink it at the bar.
- 2If you take sugar, try half a sachet for a week and see if you notice.
Where it comes from
In 1884 Angelo Moriondo patented a steam machine in Italy that made coffee in bulk. Luigi Bezzera then built one that pushed water through the grounds into a single cup in about 30 seconds, and with Desiderio Pavoni he presented caffè espresso at the 1906 World's Fair in Milan. Espresso means fast, or express, in Italian.
