How many calories in a smoothie
A bottle of fruit smoothie has 130 kcal, almost all of it carbs from the fruit.
Portion
To burn it off

A shop smoothie is blended fruit and juice, so it's 30 g of carbs and next to no protein or fat. That's why it goes down fast and you're hungry again soon.
130 kcal for a bottle isn't much. It's the same as a banana and a bit, just in a form you drink in a minute.
It does count towards your fruit for the day. It just doesn't fill you up the way eating the fruit would.
Tips
Where it comes from
Blended fruit drinks first caught on in health food shops on the US West Coast, once the electric blender had arrived. In the 1960s Steve Kuhnau began blending fruit, juice and protein powder as a dairy free alternative, and in 1973 he and Cindy Kuhnau opened Smoothie King in Kenner, Louisiana. The word smoothie was in recipes and trademarks by the mid 1980s.

Questions
Are smoothies healthy?
They're fruit, so yes, but drinking it fills you less than eating it.
How much sugar is in a smoothie?
About 30 g of carbs a bottle, all from the fruit and juice.
Is a smoothie a meal?
Not on its own at 130 kcal. Add yoghurt, oats or a protein scoop to make it one.
Does adding spinach to a smoothie add calories?
Hardly any. A big handful of spinach, about 30 g, is around 7 kcal, and you'll barely taste it next to the fruit.
How long does a homemade smoothie keep?
It's best drunk the same day. In a closed bottle in the fridge it keeps up to about 24 hours, give it a shake as it separates.
