How many calories in a bowl of muesli
A bowl of muesli has about 180 kcal before you add milk.
Portion
To burn it off

Muesli is oats, nuts and dried fruit, raw rather than baked. A bowl has 32 g of carbs, 5 g of protein and 3 g of fat.
Unlike granola, it isn't baked with oil and sugar, so it's lighter for the same bowl. The Swiss invented it as a health food and they weren't wrong.
The milk is extra. A splash doesn't change much, a full bowl of whole milk adds a fair bit.
Tips
- 1Pick a no added sugar muesli, the dried fruit is sweet enough.
- 2Soak it overnight in milk or yoghurt for Bircher muesli, it feels like more.
- 3Use a smaller bowl, muesli likes to expand to fill whatever you pour it in.
Where it comes from
Swiss doctor Maximilian Bircher-Benner created muesli around 1900 for the patients at his clinic in Zurich, where he believed raw food healed. His original was oats soaked in water with lemon juice, condensed milk, grated apple and nuts. He is said to have got the idea from a dish served to him on a hike in the Alps. Muesli is Swiss German for a little mash.
