A full English breakfast has 850 kcal, with 45 g of protein.
Portion
To burn it off

A full English is bacon, sausage, eggs, beans, tomato, mushrooms and toast, plus black pudding if you're lucky. That's a lot of protein, and a lot of frying.
A full plate at the café is 850 kcal. The smaller one, with one of everything, is 550.
It tends to keep you going well past lunch. If it's your big meal of the day, that's exactly how it should be.
Tips
- 1Have your eggs poached instead of fried.
- 2Swap fried bread for toast, and go for grilled bacon.
Where it comes from
In the Middle Ages breakfast was mostly ale and bread. The big cooked spread grew up in the country houses of the gentry in Georgian and Victorian times, a leisurely show of eggs, bacon, kidneys and kedgeree for the guests. The new middle class copied it, factory workers needed something filling too, and by the 1950s almost half of British adults started the day with a fry up.
