Terms and privacy
The short version: you type what you ate, we count it. There is no sign up, your log is kept on your phone and, encrypted, on our server, we never sell your data, and you can have it deleted.
Privacy
No sign up. Caltype works without an account. What you log is linked to a random ID made on your phone, not to an email address or an account. If you tell us your first name, we use it in your morning message.
On your phone: everything you log (meals, drinks, workouts, weigh ins, water, fasts), your body numbers and your plan.
On our server, and why: to count what you type and to write your morning message, we keep, encrypted: your log as you typed it, including weigh ins; what you told us when you started (your first name if you gave it, your current and goal weight, your pace, your training and your plan); your goals and what we learned from your messages to us; and feedback you send. Your age, height and sex stay on your phone. We also keep, not encrypted: the token that lets us send you notifications and your time zone, and app usage events (which steps you reached, language, region, app version), never anything you typed or any number about your body or your food. It is kept while you use Caltype, until you ask us to delete it.
Who else handles it: Anthropic's Claude reads what you type to work out the numbers and writes your morning message from your log and your goals. Our server runs on Railway. Expo delivers notifications. Payments go through Apple's App Store on iPhone and Google Play on Android, and RevenueCat keeps track of your subscription under the same random ID; we never see your card.
Speaking instead of typing uses your phone's own speech recognition: on your phone when your language is installed there, otherwise through Apple's speech service on iPhone or Google's speech service on Android. We never receive the audio, only the words.
Apple Health (iPhone only), if you connect it, only lets Caltype read your step count to show it on Today. Your steps stay on your phone: they are not sent to our server, not written back to Apple Health, and never used for ads or sold.
Counts, not people: we publish weekly totals of what people log, only when at least 50 people logged that week, without anyone's words and not linked to anyone.
This website counts visits with Simple Analytics, without cookies or personal data. An email you leave for the launch is only used to tell you the app is out.
Never: we do not sell your data, show ads, or let anyone train AI on what you log.
Deleting: deleting the app removes everything on your phone. To have what our server keeps deleted too, ask us through Feedback on the You page in the app (that is how we know which data is yours), and it is done within 30 days: your log, what you told us when you started, your goals, your messages, your feedback, your notification token and your usage events. What stays: the weekly totals above and a record of how typed phrases were read, neither linked to you, and the purchase records Apple or Google and RevenueCat must keep. In the EU and the UK you can also ask to see, correct or export your data, and complain to your data protection authority.
Age: Caltype is not for anyone under 16.

Terms
What it is. An app that counts the calories and nutrients of what you type, and helps you keep to a plan. Using it means you agree to these terms.
Not medical advice. The numbers are estimates and can be wrong. Caltype is not a doctor or a dietitian. Talk to one before changing how you eat if you are pregnant, have a medical condition, or have had an eating disorder. If counting starts to feel bad, stop.
Subscriptions. €9,99 a month or €34,99 a year (or the same in your currency, as the App Store or Google Play shows), after 3 days free. It renews by itself until you cancel, at least 24 hours before the period ends, in your App Store settings on iPhone, or in Google Play under Payments and subscriptions on Android. Refunds go through Apple or Google. A new price only applies from your next period, and you are told first.
Fair use. Do not try to break, overload or copy the app or the server. We may stop access for anyone who does.
Ours and yours. The app, its design and its words are ours. What you type is yours.
No guarantees. We provide Caltype as it is and cannot promise it is always available or free of mistakes. As far as the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid us in the last 12 months. Your rights as a consumer stay as they are.
Changes. We may update these terms; if a change matters, we tell you in the app.
