How many calories in a can of cola
A 330 ml can of Coke has 139 kcal, all of it from 35 g of sugar, and a 500 ml bottle has 210.
Portion
To burn it off

Cola is fizzy water, flavouring and sugar. There's no protein and no fat, so all 139 kcal in a can are the 35 g of sugar, almost 9 teaspoons.
That's the 330 ml can sold in the UK and Europe, about 42 kcal in every 100 ml. The 500 ml bottle from the meal deal fridge is 210, and one a day at work is 1,050 over a five day week, which is a whole pizza you never sat down to eat.
Coke Zero and Diet Coke are 1 kcal a can. Whatever you think of sweeteners, the number really is that small.
Tips
- 1Swap the bottle for a can, it's a third less.
- 2Go Zero for the everyday one and keep the full sugar for when you actually want it.
- 3Fizzy water with ice and a slice of lime scratches a surprising amount of the same itch.
Where it comes from
The first glass of Coca-Cola was poured on 8 May 1886 at Jacobs' Pharmacy in Atlanta, where pharmacist John Pemberton brought his new syrup. It cost five cents a glass and sold about nine glasses a day in its first year. His bookkeeper Frank Robinson picked the name, thinking the two Cs would look good in adverts, and wrote it in the flowing script still on the can.
