How many calories in lasagne
A restaurant portion of lasagne has 600 kcal, with 30 g of protein.
Portion
To burn it off

Lasagne is sheets of pasta layered with a slow cooked beef ragù, béchamel and cheese, baked until the corners go crispy. In Bologna it's Sunday lunch, and here it's the pub special, the ready meal and the thing your mum made on a Thursday.
A restaurant portion is 600 kcal. Made at home it's usually a bit smaller and lighter on cheese, at about 500.
There's plenty of protein in the meat sauce. The béchamel and the cheese on top are where most of the fat comes from.
Tips
- 1Have it with a green salad instead of garlic bread and chips.
- 2At home, go lighter on the cheese on top. The béchamel already does the job.
- 3Cut the tray into proper portions before anyone goes back for seconds.
Where it comes from
Lasagne is one of the oldest pasta dishes there is. The Romans already layered sheets of dough, in a dish Apicius described in his cookbook. The name probably comes from the Greek laganon, a flat sheet of dough, or from lasanum, a Latin word for a cooking pot borrowed from Greek, so the food may be named after the dish it was baked in.

Questions
How many calories in homemade lasagne?
About 500 kcal for a normal portion, depending on how much cheese goes on.
How much protein is in lasagne?
About 30 g in a restaurant portion, and 26 g in a homemade one.
Is it lasagne or lasagna?
Both. Lasagna is one sheet in Italian, lasagne the plural and the dish. In the UK lasagne is the usual spelling.
How is lasagne from Naples different?
Lasagne napoletana is a Carnival dish with ricotta, mozzarella, little meatballs and sausage in a tomato ragù, and no béchamel. The béchamel version is the one from Bologna.
Do you need to boil lasagne sheets first?
Usually not. Fresh sheets and most dried sheets from the supermarket go in raw, as long as the sauce is loose enough for them to soak up. Check the packet, a few still ask for a quick boil.
