How many calories in a carbonara
A restaurant plate of carbonara has 800 kcal, with 38 g of fat.
Portion
To burn it off

Carbonara is pasta, egg, cheese and cured pork, and the fat in those is what makes it silky. The proper version has no cream at all.
A restaurant plate is 800 kcal. Made at home it's closer to 650, mostly because you'll serve yourself a bit less pasta and fat.
Many British versions add cream, and that pushes the number up. The Roman way is lighter and, honestly, nicer.
Tips
Where it comes from
Carbonara is younger than most people think. The name first appears in print in 1950, when the Italian paper La Stampa described it as a Roman dish American officers went looking for after Rome was freed in 1944. A popular theory says it grew out of army rations of bacon and powdered egg, but nobody can prove who cooked it first.

Questions
Does carbonara have cream in it?
The original doesn't, just egg, cheese and pork. Cream is a later habit and it adds calories.
How many calories in a homemade carbonara?
About 650 kcal for a usual plate.
How much protein is in a carbonara?
Around 30 g for a restaurant plate, from the egg, cheese and pork.
Does guanciale or bacon change the calories?
A little. Guanciale is the fattier cut, so a carbonara made with it lands a bit higher than one with lean bacon. The gap is smaller than what a splash of cream adds.
How many calories does extra cheese on top add?
A tablespoon of grated pecorino or parmesan is about 20 kcal. Two generous spoons over the plate add around 40.
