How many calories in a peach
A medium peach has 59 kcal, nearly all of it from carbs.
Portion
To burn it off

A peach is mostly water with a bit of natural sugar and fibre. That's why a ripe one drips down your chin.
A medium one is 59 kcal. Nectarines are much the same, just without the fuzz.
Tinned peaches in syrup are a different thing, so check the label if that's what's in the cupboard.
Tips
- 1Grill halves for a few minutes and have them with yoghurt.
- 2Pick tinned peaches in juice rather than syrup.
- 3Leave hard ones in a paper bag for a day and they'll ripen.
Where it comes from
The peach was first domesticated in China. Peach stones dug up at sites in Zhejiang province show that people in the lower Yangtze valley were selecting bigger fruit at least 7,500 years ago. It reached Europe by way of Persia, so the Romans called it malum persicum, Persian apple, and that became pêche in French and peach in English.
