How many calories in grapes
A bowl of grapes has 104 kcal, nearly all of it natural sugar.
Portion
To burn it off

Grapes are water and natural sugar with a little fibre. They're sweet and you can eat them without thinking, which is the whole trick.
A bowl is 104 kcal and a handful is 55. Still very little, but a whole bag in front of the telly can quietly become three bowls.
Red, green or black, the numbers are close enough that it doesn't matter. Pick the ones you like.
Tips
- 1Put a portion in a bowl rather than eating from the bag.
- 2Freeze them, they turn into little sweets and take longer to eat.
- 3Pair a handful with a bit of cheese for a snack that keeps you going longer.
Where it comes from
Grapes were among the first fruits people ever farmed. A 2023 study of almost 2,500 grapevines found they were domesticated twice, at about the same time, around 11,000 years ago: once in Western Asia and once in the Caucasus. The Western Asian vines travelled into Europe with early farmers and are behind many of the wine grapes grown there today.
