To burn it off

Chicken tikka masala is grilled chicken in a creamy, mildly spiced tomato sauce. It's the UK's favourite curry and on every takeaway menu from Glasgow to Brighton.
The curry alone is 450 kcal, with 35 g of protein and 28 g of fat from the cream and butter. With a portion of rice it's 800, with 85 g of carbs.
A naan alongside adds 260 more, and a garlic butter one 320. A full takeaway night is easily over 1,000.
Tips
- 1Share the rice or have half a portion, the sauce is the good bit anyway.
- 2Pick one of rice or naan, not both.
- 3Order a tandoori or tikka main with a side of dal next time, it's lighter on the cream.
Where it comes from
Most accounts place its birth in Britain, not India. Ali Ahmed Aslam of the Shish Mahal in Glasgow said he made it for a customer who found his chicken tikka too dry, but other chefs in Britain claim it too, and the famous tin of tomato soup in the tale was later called made up. In 2001 Foreign Secretary Robin Cook called it a true British national dish.
