To burn it off
Bibimbap is Korean rice topped with seasoned veg, beef, a fried egg and a spoon of gochujang chilli paste, all mixed up at the table. The dolsot version comes in a hot stone bowl that crisps the rice at the bottom.
A bowl is 560 kcal, with 22 g of protein, 80 g of carbs and 16 g of fat. Most of the carbs come from the rice.
With all that veg it's a proper balanced bowl. The sesame oil and the crispy rice add a bit, and they're worth it.
Tips
Where it comes from
Bibimbap means mixed rice in Korean, and nobody knows exactly where it began. One theory says households mixed up leftovers at the lunar new year, another that it came from food offered at ancestral rites, a third that farmers ate it at harvest. The first known recipe, as bubimbap, is in Siuijeonseo, a cookbook from the late 1800s. The city of Jeonju claims to be its home.
