How many calories in tomato soup
A bowl of tomato soup has 150 kcal, mostly from the tomatoes and a bit of cream.
Portion
To burn it off
Tomato soup is mostly tomatoes and water, with a bit of cream or oil to make it smooth. That's why a whole bowl is only 150 kcal.
The soup is rarely the problem. A buttered roll or a cheese toastie on the side can easily cost more than the soup itself.
It's warming, cheap and quick, the kind of lunch that works on a grey Tuesday. Just know it won't keep you full for long on its own.
Tips
Where it comes from
The famous canned version starts with Campbell's in Camden, New Jersey, which sold a ready to eat Beefsteak Tomato soup in 1895. In 1897 a 24 year old chemist, John T. Dorrance, worked out how to take the water out, so soup fit in a small, cheaper can. The red and white label came in 1898, after an executive admired Cornell's new football kit, and Andy Warhol painted the cans in 1962.
