Where it comes from
Radler is German for cyclist. The popular story says innkeeper Franz Xaver Kugler, south of Munich, ran short of beer when thousands of cyclists turned up one June day in 1922, so he stretched it with lemonade and called it a Radlermass. It is a nice tale, but the name Radlermass already turns up in records from around 1900, so the drink is probably older.
