How many calories in a margarita
A classic margarita has about 200 kcal, most of it from the tequila and triple sec.
Portion
To burn it off

A classic margarita is tequila, triple sec and lime. The alcohol brings most of the calories, with 12 g of carbs from the orange liqueur.
On the rocks it's 200 kcal, frozen it's 300. The frozen one is bigger and made with sweet mix, so it carries 35 g of carbs.
At a Mexican place with nachos on the table, the drinks and the snacks add up quickly. Order the one you actually want rather than the jumbo.
Tips
- 1Pick the classic on the rocks over the frozen one.
- 2Ask for extra lime and soda to make it taller.
- 3Skip the sugar rim and keep the salt if you like it.
Where it comes from
Nobody knows for sure who invented the margarita. A popular story says Carlos Danny Herrera made it around 1938 at his restaurant Rancho La Gloria near Tijuana, for a customer called Marjorie King who could only drink tequila. Dallas socialite Margarita Sames said she created it in Acapulco in 1948, but a Jose Cuervo advert already used the name in 1945.
