The Mars bar was born in 1932 in Slough, England, where Forrest Mars, son of the American candy maker Frank Mars, set up his own small factory. He based it on his father's Milky Way-bar and adjusted the recipe for British tastes. The Slough factory still makes Mars bars today, close to a century later.
