A full fat pot is 146 kcal with 13 g of protein. The 0% pot is 85 kcal with 15 g, so it's 61 less and actually a touch more protein.
Greek style yoghurt in the supermarket is often thickened rather than strained. It's fine, just check the label because the numbers can differ.
Tips
- 1Go for the 0% and add your own fruit, it's creamier than you'd think.
- 2Use it instead of soured cream on chilli or a jacket potato.
- 3Stir a spoon of honey in yourself rather than buying the flavoured pots.
Where it comes from
Straining yoghurt through cloth to make it thick is an old tradition in Greece. The name Greek yoghurt took off in Britain after the Greek dairy FAGE, which had been making strained yoghurt since the late 1920s, launched its Total brand there in 1983. In 2014 a UK court ruled that yoghurt sold there as Greek must be strained, free of additives and made in Greece, which is why other pots say Greek style.
