How many calories in an eclair
One chocolate eclair has about 260 kcal, most of it from the cream and the icing.
Portion
To burn it off

An eclair is light choux pastry filled with cream and topped with chocolate. One has 16 g of fat, 24 g of carbs and 6 g of protein.
The pastry itself is mostly air. The cream inside and the chocolate on top bring most of the 260.
The mini ones in a supermarket tub are much smaller, so a couple of those is a different number. A bakery eclair is the full size one.
Tips
- 1Pick one proper eclair from the bakery rather than a tub of minis you keep going back to.
- 2Have it with a cup of tea in the afternoon, when you'll enjoy it most.
- 3Halve one with someone at the café.
Where it comes from
The eclair grew out of choux pastry and a 19th century French pastry called pain à la duchesse. The great Paris chef Antonin Carême, who cooked for Napoleon and Tsar Alexander, is said to have perfected it in the early 1800s, though that is hard to prove. By about 1850 Parisians called it éclair, French for a flash of lightning, perhaps because it is eaten so fast.

Questions
How many calories in two eclairs?
About 520 kcal.
Is an eclair lighter than a doughnut?
It depends on the doughnut, but an eclair sits in the same range of a few hundred kcal.
Where do the calories in an eclair come from?
Mostly the cream filling and the chocolate on top. The pastry is light.
Does an eclair need to go in the fridge?
Yes, with a cream filling it belongs in the fridge. Eat it within a day or two, before the pastry goes soft.
Can you freeze eclairs?
The empty choux shells freeze well. A filled eclair goes soggy when it thaws, so fill and ice them on the day.
