How many calories in a fried egg
A fried egg has about 90 kcal, with 6 g of protein.
Portion
To burn it off

A fried egg is an egg plus a little bit of oil or butter from the pan. No carbs, mostly protein and fat.
One is 90 kcal, with 6 g of protein and 7 g of fat. Two on a fry up come to 180.
How much oil goes in the pan makes the difference. A greasy spoon egg swimming in fat will be more than one done in a non stick pan at home.
Tips
- 1Use a non stick pan and just a drop of oil, or a spray.
- 2Put a lid on the pan so the top cooks without basting it in fat.
- 3Have it on one slice of toast with tomatoes on the side.
Where it comes from
The fried egg starts with the chicken, which was probably domesticated in Southeast Asia about 3,500 years ago. The oldest bones that are clearly from tame chickens come from Ban Non Wat in Thailand, dated to around 1650 to 1250 BC. Researchers think rice and millet fields drew wild junglefowl close to people, and that chickens were special birds before they became everyday food.
