Portion
To burn it off

Apple pie is sweetened apples in a pastry case. The apples are light; the pastry and sugar are where the calories are.
A slice is 300 kcal, with 43 g of carbs, 14 g of fat and 3 g of protein. Most of the fat comes from the butter in the pastry.
In the UK it rarely comes alone. Custard, cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream all add on top.
Tips
- 1Go for a small jug of custard instead of a big pour of cream.
- 2Leave some of the thick pastry edge if you're not fussed about it.
- 3Serve smaller slices and a bowl of fruit alongside.
Where it comes from
Apple pie was English long before it was American. The oldest known recipe is in The Forme of Cury, written around 1390 by the cooks of King Richard II. It mixes apples with figs, raisins, pears and saffron and bakes them in a pastry case called a coffin. Settlers later took apple pie to North America, where it became a national symbol.

How many calories in two slices of apple pie?
About 600 kcal, before custard.
Is apple crumble lower than pie?
They're often close. Both have a buttery topping or crust.
How much sugar is in apple pie?
A good share of the 43 g of carbs in a slice is sugar from the filling.
How many calories in apple pie with custard?
A small jug of custard, about 100 ml, adds roughly 100 kcal. So a slice with custard comes to about 400.

Slightly. A lattice uses less pastry, and the pastry is where most of the fat is. The filling stays the same.
