A bag is 343 kcal, with 77 g of carbs and no fat at all. A handful is 86.

No fat sounds good on the packet, but it's almost pure sugar. That's why they go down so fast and leave you wanting more.

The big sharing bag at the cinema is the risky one, because nobody counts bears in the dark.

Tips

  1. 1Tip a handful into a bowl and put the bag away.
  2. 2Buy the small bag, not the sharing one, if you're having them alone.
  3. 3Eat them slowly, one colour at a time, it makes a handful last.

Where it comes from

Gummy bears were invented in Bonn, Germany, in 1922 by Hans Riegel, who had started Haribo in his kitchen two years earlier. The name Haribo is short for HAns RIegel BOnn. His first bears, called Dancing Bears, were bigger and slimmer than today's and were reportedly inspired by the performing bears at European fairs. In 1960 they were renamed Goldbears.
