How many calories in a stroopwafel
One packaged stroopwafel has 140 kcal, mostly from the syrup and dough.
Portion
To burn it off

A stroopwafel is two thin waffles stuck together with caramel syrup. That syrup is where most of it comes from.
The one from a packet is 140 kcal. The big warm one made fresh at a Dutch market is 460, so that's a treat, not a biscuit.
The Dutch trick is to rest it on top of a hot cup of tea or coffee so the syrup goes soft. It also makes you eat it slower.
Tips
- 1Have one from the packet with a coffee and put the packet back in the cupboard.
- 2Share the big market one, it's huge.
Where it comes from
The stroopwafel comes from Gouda, where around 1800 bakers made it from leftover crumbs and syrup and sold it cheaply at the back door as a poor man's cookie. A Gouda baker, Gerard Kamphuisen, is often named as its inventor around 1810, though that cannot be proven. Until 1870 it was made only in Gouda, which once had about 100 syrup waffle bakers.
