How many calories in cider
A 500 ml bottle of cider has 210 kcal, from the alcohol and the sugar.
Portion
To burn it off

Cider gets its calories from two places: the alcohol and the sugar left from the apples. That second part is why it's sweeter than beer.
A 500 ml bottle is 210 kcal, about the same as half a litre of lager. Fruit ciders tend to be sweeter, so a bit more.
Three bottles over a sunny afternoon is 630, roughly a plate of spag bol. Good to know before the next round.
Tips
- 1Go for a dry cider, it has less sugar.
- 2Make it a half instead of a whole one now and then.
- 3Have a pint of water between rounds.
Where it comes from
Cider in Britain is often linked to the Normans in 1066, but it is older than that. The Celts probably made it from crab apples, and under the Romans managed apple growing began, with imported varieties mixed with the wild ones. From the 13th century new apple varieties kept arriving from Normandy, first planted mostly in Devon, and they shaped English cider.

About the same per 500 ml. Sweet and fruit ciders are a bit higher.
How much sugar is in cider?
About 22 g in a 500 ml bottle of normal cider.
How many calories in a pint of cider?
A pint is a little more than 500 ml, so a bit over 210 kcal.

Cider is made from apples, so it's naturally gluten free. If you need to be strict, check the label on the flavoured ones.
