How many calories in quark
A 250 g tub of fat free quark has 170 kcal and 30 g of protein.
Portion
To burn it off

Quark is a soft, fresh cheese, a bit like a thick yoghurt, and the fat free one is almost pure protein. A tub has 10 g of carbs, 1 g of fat and 30 g of protein.
That's a lot of protein for 170 kcal, which is why it's in so many gym fridges. You'll find it in most UK supermarkets near the yoghurts.
On its own it's quite plain and a bit sour, so most people dress it up.
Tips
- 1Stir in some berries and a little honey for a quick pudding.
- 2Mix it into overnight oats for a protein breakfast.
- 3Use it instead of cream cheese or sour cream in dips and on jacket potatoes.
Where it comes from
Quark is the fresh curd cheese of Central and Eastern Europe, and nobody knows who made it first. Its name was borrowed from a West Slavic language, compare Polish twaróg, and shows up in late medieval German as twarc before it became quark. Fun detail: since the 16th century Germans have also used Quark to mean nonsense.
