How many calories in popcorn
A bowl of salted popcorn, about 30 g, has 150 kcal.
Portion
To burn it off

Popcorn is a whole grain puffed up with air, so a big bowl doesn't weigh much. Most of the calories come from the corn and the oil it's popped in.
A bowl at home is 150 kcal, which is about the same as a small bag of crisps but takes far longer to eat.
The cinema is a different thing. Those buckets are many bowls in one, and sweet or buttery popcorn adds more again.
Tips
Where it comes from
Popcorn is far older than the cinema. Corn was domesticated in Mexico nearly 9,000 years ago from a wild grass called teosinte, and cobs found at Paredones and Huaca Prieta on Peru's northern coast show people there were eating popcorn at least 6,700 years ago. That was before they even made pottery.
