Fajitas are strips of chicken, peppers and onion fried with spices, rolled into soft tortillas at the table. A Friday night favourite, usually from a kit.
Two wraps are 520 kcal, with 34 g of protein, 50 g of carbs and 20 g of fat. That's with a bit of cheese and soured cream.
The filling itself is fairly light, it's the toppings that add up. A third wrap is another 260.
Tips
- 1Fill the wraps up with extra peppers and onions, they cost you very little.
- 2Swap soured cream for Greek yoghurt or salsa.
- 3Have two wraps and put the rest of the filling on a salad.
Where it comes from
Fajitas began on the ranches of South and West Texas in the 1930s, where Mexican vaqueros were given cheap skirt steak as part of their pay and grilled it over a campfire. The name comes from faja, Spanish for belt or strip, after the shape of the cut. In 1969 Sonny Falcón ran the first known fajita taco stand, at a fair in the small town of Kyle, Texas.
