How many calories in a pint of Guinness
A pint of Guinness has 200 kcal, fewer than most people expect.
Portion
To burn it off
Guinness looks heavy, but it's lower in alcohol than most lagers, so it has fewer calories. A pint has 17 g of carbs, 2 g of protein and no fat.
At 200 kcal it comes in under a lot of pints of lager. Three pints is 600.
The dark colour is from roasted barley, not from extra calories. The numbers can differ a little by country.
Tips
- 1Sip it slowly, it's a pint that takes its time anyway.
- 2Have a half if you just want the taste.
- 3Try Guinness 0.0, it pours the same and has much less in it.
Where it comes from
On 31 December 1759 Arthur Guinness signed a lease on a disused brewery at St James's Gate in Dublin, for 9,000 years at £45 a year. Most leases then ran for 21 or 99 years. Guinness has since bought the land outright, so the lease no longer matters, and the original document sits under glass in the floor of the Guinness Storehouse.
