How many calories in ćevapi
Five ćevapi in a lepinja with onion have 640 kcal, with 35 g of protein.
Portion
To burn it off

Ćevapi are little grilled rolls of minced beef, or beef and lamb, served in a fluffy flatbread called lepinja with raw onion. Often there's kajmak, a rich clotted cream, and ajvar, a red pepper relish.
Five in bread is 640 kcal. Ten is 1,050, and in Croatia and Bosnia ten is a normal order.
It's a lot of protein, which is the upside. Kajmak is the part that adds up fastest.
Tips
- 1Order five, not ten, and add a shopska salad on the side.
- 2Ask for ajvar instead of kajmak, or a thin spread of both.
Where it comes from
The name comes from the Ottoman Turkish kebap, which reached the Balkans with the Ottoman Empire. The word ćevapi turns up in documents from the 1850s, and grill masters from Leskovac in southern Serbia made them famous in Belgrade from the 1860s. The Sarajevo and Banja Luka styles took shape later, in 1950s and 1960s Yugoslavia, and who really invented them is still argued over.
