How many calories in a wrap
A plain tortilla wrap has about 180 kcal before any filling.
Portion
To burn it off

A regular flour tortilla is 180 kcal, with 30 g of carbs and 4 g of fat. That's the same as two slices of bread.
Wraps look lighter than a sandwich, but they aren't really. A large wrap from a meal deal can be more than that.
As with a sandwich, the filling is where it adds up. Chicken and salad stays modest, mayo and cheese pile on.
Tips
- 1Use salsa or yoghurt instead of mayo.
- 2Fill it with plenty of salad so one is enough.
- 3Try a smaller wrap if you have them often.
Where it comes from
The tortilla is far older than the wrap. People in Mesoamerica made corn flatbreads for thousands of years and called them tlaxcalli in Nahuatl, the Aztec language. The Spanish, arriving in the 16th century, named them tortilla, little cake, and brought wheat. Flour tortillas, the kind used for wraps, came much later and caught on mainly in northern Mexico and the United States.

Questions
Is a wrap healthier than a sandwich?
Not by default. One wrap is 180 kcal, the same as two slices of bread.
Are wholemeal wraps lower in calories?
Barely. They have more fibre, the kcal are about the same.
How do I count a meal deal wrap?
Type the wrap with its filling, like "chicken caesar wrap", and Caltype counts the lot.
How big is a regular wrap?
A regular wrap is about 20 cm across, and that's the one counted here. The large ones used for burritos are 25 to 30 cm and carry a lot more.
Do corn tortillas have fewer calories than flour wraps?
Yes, one small corn tortilla is well under a flour wrap. They're smaller and have less fat, so people often have two or three.
