How many calories in olives
Ten olives have about 50 kcal, most of it from the fat in the fruit.
Portion
To burn it off

Olives are a fruit full of oil, which is where olive oil comes from. Ten of them have 5 g of fat, 1 g of carbs and almost no protein.
Fifty kcal for ten is a decent deal as nibbles go. The thing is, nobody stops at ten when there's a bowl on the table with a drink.
Stuffed olives and ones swimming in oil and herbs come in a bit higher. The olive itself stays about the same.
Tips
- 1Count out a small bowl instead of eating from the jar.
- 2Drain the ones sitting in oil before they hit the table.
- 3Put a few in a salad or on a pizza for lots of flavour from a little.
Where it comes from
The olive was first grown in the eastern Mediterranean. People on Crete were cultivating it around 3500 BC, and Semitic peoples by about 3000 BC. In Homer's Greece olive oil was rubbed into the skin, and by about 600 BC the olive was an important crop for the Romans.

Questions
Do black olives have more calories than green?
They're close. Count about 50 kcal for ten of either.
How many calories in twenty olives?
About 100 kcal.
Is the fat in olives the same as olive oil?
Yes, it's the same oil, just still inside the fruit.
Do pitted olives have fewer calories?
No, the stone has no calories, so count the olives, not the jar. Ten olives are about 50 kcal either way.
Can you eat olives straight off the tree?
Not really, they're far too bitter. Olives have to be cured in brine, salt or water for weeks before they're nice to eat.
