How many calories in chorizo
A portion of chorizo, about a third of a ring, has around 230 kcal.
Portion
To burn it off

Chorizo is Spanish pork sausage with paprika and garlic, and it's mostly fat and flavour. A portion has 20 g of fat with 12 g of protein.
The good news is how far a little goes. Fry a few slices and the red oil seasons everything else in the pan.
You'll meet it at tapas bars, in paella, on pizza and in supermarket meal deals. A full plate of chorizo al vino is a lot more than a portion.
Tips
- 1Use it as seasoning: a few slices in a stew or with beans goes a long way.
- 2Fry it in a dry pan and let some of the oil stay behind.
- 3Share the tapas plate rather than claiming it.
Where it comes from
Cured sausages were made on the Iberian Peninsula even before the Romans, but chorizo as we know it needed pimentón. Peppers reached Spain from the Americas in the 16th century, after Columbus, and once they were dried and ground into paprika they gave chorizo its red colour and its flavour.
