How many calories in pistachios
A handful of shelled pistachios has about 160 kcal and 6 g of protein.
Portion
To burn it off

Pistachios have a bit more protein than most nuts, 6 g in a handful, with 13 g of fat and 8 g of carbs.
The shells are your friend here. Cracking each one open slows you down, and the pile of empties shows you how many you've had.
Shelled ones from a bag go down much faster. Same nut, same numbers, just less work.

Tips
Where it comes from
The pistachio comes from the dry hills of southern Central Asia, a wild range that reaches into northern Iran and northern Afghanistan, and researchers think it was first cultivated there. It spread west at least 2,000 years ago, perhaps a few centuries earlier to the mountains of what is now Syria. Outside its homeland it stayed rare for a long time, and was probably only widely grown in recent centuries.

Questions
How many calories in two handfuls of pistachios?
About 320 kcal.
Are pistachios lower in calories than other nuts?
A little. A handful is 160 kcal against 165 for cashews.
Do I count the shells?
No. The numbers here are for the nuts you actually eat.
Why are pistachios green?
It's chlorophyll, the same green as in leaves. The greener the nut, the earlier it was picked, and it doesn't change the calories.
Can you eat pistachios that won't open?
Yes, if you can get them open. Prise the gap with half an empty shell. Fully closed ones were just picked a little early, but they're often more work than they're worth.
