Salmon is an oily fish, so it has more fat than chicken. One fillet is 310 kcal, with 33 g of protein and 19 g of fat.

A good part of that fat is omega 3, which is why salmon gets recommended so often. It isn't light, it's just worth it.

Baked with lemon it stays close to that number. A creamy sauce or a crispy skin fried in butter adds more.

Where it comes from

Most salmon in the shops today is farmed, and that started in Norway. On 28 May 1970, on the island of Hitra, brothers Ove and Sivert Grøntvedt put young salmon into a floating open net pen in the sea. Their fish became the first successful generation of farmed Atlantic salmon, and Norway is still the biggest producer, with more than half of the world's farmed salmon.
