Two fried kibbeh on a white plate

Kibbeh are shells of bulgur and minced meat, shaped like little torpedoes, filled with more meat fried with onion and pine nuts. They're deep fried until the outside is crisp and brown.

Two are 330 kcal, with 25 g of carbs, 19 g of fat and 14 g of protein. The frying and the meat bring the fat, the bulgur brings the carbs.

They're on every mezze table in Lebanon and Syria. Baked kibbeh in a tray soaks up less oil than the fried ones.

Tips

  1. 1Have two with a big salad or tabbouleh instead of four on their own.
  2. 2Pick baked kibbeh from the tray when it's on offer.
  3. 3A spoon of yoghurt on the side is a lighter dip than tahini.
