How many calories in a Dutch kroket
One Dutch kroket has 190 kcal, with 12 g of fat.
Portion
To burn it off

A kroket is a thick beef ragout, rolled in breadcrumbs and deep fried. It's the one you pull out of a little door in the wall in Amsterdam.
One on its own is 190 kcal. On a soft white roll with mustard it's 400, which is what the Dutch call lunch.
Let it cool for a minute first. The inside is lava, and everyone learns that once.
Tips
- 1Have it on its own with mustard rather than on a roll.
- 2Split a second one with a friend instead of having two.
Where it comes from
The kroket descends from the French croquette, which turns up in French court cookbooks around 1700. It reached the Netherlands later, and the first Dutch recipe dates from 1830. For a long time it was a dish for the well off, until cooks started using leftover meat for the ragout, and after the Second World War snack bars like Kwekkeboom and Van Dobben made it everyday food.

Questions
What is a Dutch kroket?
A sausage shaped croquette of beef ragout in a crisp crumb. Served with mustard, often on bread.
How many calories in a broodje kroket?
About 400 kcal for a kroket on a white roll.
Is a bitterbal the same thing?
It's the same filling in a little ball, so one bitterbal is a lot less than a whole kroket.
Does mustard add calories to a kroket?
Hardly. A dollop of mustard is about 5 kcal, so the 190 stays about 190. Mayonnaise is the one that adds up, at about 95 a tablespoon.
Is a kroket from the air fryer lower?
A little. It soaks up less frying fat, so it lands a bit under the 190 of one from the snack bar. The ragout and the crumb are the same, so the gap is smaller than you'd think.
